MPBAGS Chapter 38
When I let go of her hand, Daisy touched her own hand and hid it behind her back.
"Sister! I'll escort you!"
"It's fine! The carriage stop is right ahead."
"Well, that's true, but..."
Daisy rejected Raphaela's offer with distaste. Since the carriage stop wasn't far, Raphaela seemed to accept it and watched helplessly as Daisy ran away.
"She's gone."
"Indeed. Ah, did you two have a good chat? I kept both ears tightly shut to protect privacy."
"I don't think so. She didn't seem to want to talk to me. Actually, I don't even remember who she is."
"What? Ah, well, I wouldn't recognize our household servants either if asked."
Raphaela joked good-naturedly. But you know what, he's definitely smiling nicely, but why does he look so suspicious?
Normally when someone suddenly runs away after talking to someone, wouldn't you ask why? And emphasizing that he wasn't eavesdropping while talking about protecting privacy is also strange.
Could he have a two-faced attribute? He's being kind now, but if Gabriel considers me an enemy, he'll be the first to come after me. Imagining it made Raphaela's smiling face seem a bit scary. I've always been uncomfortable with people who laugh "haha hoho" like that anyway.
"Ah. What about that young master over there?"
Raphaela asked, looking at Jelly. Jelly looked at me for cues, asking with his eyes what to do.
Let's see...? What should I say? The sub male lead I caught? A magic-using werewolf? Our household's pet beastman?
"He's my escort."
"Ah! You're a knight, sir. I didn't realize since you're not wearing a sword."
I didn't think of that. It would be strange for him to use a sword. Jelly is a beastman mage, right? He mainly uses magic and claws instead of swords. I should have come up with a more plausible excuse. How do I fix this? As I was worrying, Jelly shrugged his shoulders.
"Well. I'm excellent even without a sword."
He answered quite smoothly. Raphaela nodded, seeing Jelly easily carrying the box of holy water bottles with one hand. Jelly's strength show actually came in handy.
"You're going to the Knights' reception room, right? Then we should head back together."
Raphaela and Uriel led the way. I followed slowly behind, matching Jelly's pace.
"How do you know Daisy?"
"Who? Ah, that girl from earlier? Um... we helped each other out a bit?"
"You didn't bully her, did you?"
"No. I actually helped her. I got her out and we escaped together."
Jelly grumbled back, saying he was the one who got bullied, not her. He seemed to be speaking in roundabout ways since other people were nearby.
Fortunately, I could guess the content from just that. You know, when Jelly first appeared, he was severely injured, right? How many things could injure a beastman like that? And he just said they escaped together.
This is definitely that. Daisy and Jelly were caught by slave traders or something and escaped together! Daisy turned so pale because seeing Jelly brought back those terrible memories. This is called post-traumatic stress something, I think.
So Jelly wasn't a sub male lead but part of a sub couple? Now near the end, he'll give up on his feelings for Kanna and turn to Daisy instead. I'm the villain for this couple too. Why are there two couples but only one villain?
"I handled the cleanup cleanly too."
He must have cleanly dealt with the slave traders too. That was well done. I petted Jelly's head as praise.
Raphaela had stopped and was waiting since we weren't following from afar. When Jelly and I approached and the distance closed, he looked at me with a very complex expression. It makes sense since he thought his superior was meeting someone he had feelings for, only to witness her petting another man's head.
"You seem close with your escort...?"
That's because Jelly is my pet... He usually goes around in wolf form instead of human form... I kept my mouth shut because saying this would really make me look like a slave trader who discriminates against different races.
"Not at all."
I have absolutely no intention of dating Gabriel, but I can't fall out of his favor right now, so I answered firmly instead. Who knew I'd be playing the field in a romance fantasy world…
