MPBAGS Chapter 48
I went to see the butler after a long time. The servants who seemed to be reporting something to the butler bowed their heads deeply and disappeared quietly, trying not to even step on my shadow. It's depressing that this reaction is actually an improvement.
"My lady? What brings you here...?"
"I need something."
"What might that be?"
"I heard there was a maid named Daisy who worked here?"
The butler was silent.
"That Daisy who went to the convent."
Ah, why is he acting like this when he knows everything? I came here knowing everything too. This makes me feel like a detective who came to interrogate a criminal.
"I want to know where Daisy lives. You must have it, right?"
Maybe they immediately dispose of former employees' information. But now that I think about it, it's also somewhat problematic that they still have personal information of someone who already quit. Plus, I'm investigating from above to find out her home address.
"I heard she sold her house saying she was entering the convent. The convent would be her home now."
No, the problem is that Daisy isn't at the convent. That abbot committed too many evil acts, so Daisy escaped and righteously reported it to the convent. She also mentioned my evil deeds while she was at it.
Saying it like this makes me seem like I'm on the same level as that evil abbot? Daisy seems much more righteous.
"Isn't there anywhere else Daisy might live?"
The butler looks like he knows more. Maybe it's because he wears monocle glasses, but he seems like he might be the head of an information guild or have assassination as a side job.
When I persistently questioned him to the end, another piece of information came out. I knew it. He was hiding it while knowing.
"Ainoa Orphanage?"
"She said she was from an orphanage. If she left the convent and is staying somewhere temporarily, it would be there."
An orphanage? So Daisy was at an orphanage, became the villainess's maid by unfortunate circumstance and was bullied, fled to a convent where she was traumatized by the crazy abbot. I don't know the exact timing, but she was caught by slave traders and safely escaped with Jelly, who was caught with her.
Somehow... Doesn't Daisy have a deeper story than Kanna? Maybe the real heroine wasn't Kanna but Daisy? I thought she was a character planted by the original story's corrective force to stop the villainess's rampage, but was I mistaken?
I don't know. I'll find out when I go see her. Before coming to see the butler, I had already changed into modest outdoor clothes and brought plenty of gold coins.
A carriage was already waiting outside. It didn't seem to be the Count Rohanson's carriage, but a separately hired one. When did he call it?
"Sir Jelly called it for you."
I feel bad for just badmouthing him. Right. Jelly may be a bit reckless, but he listens well and is considerate.
"Did I do well?"
Jelly smiled triumphantly. Really proud of himself with claw marks hanging on his face.
"What about Pudding?"
"Here."
Jelly handed me Pudding. No, what am I supposed to do if you bring the kid? We have to take a carriage, and carriages shake so much.
"Pudding, do you want to come along?"
Pudding nodded. I can't take him back now. Since Pudding seems to want to come, I have no choice but to take him.
"Where shall I take you?"
Maybe because Jelly called the carriage, the coachman was extremely polite. Though he seems to have a somewhat bad habit. The coachman seems to have a habit of scratching his neck. The visible part of his neck was red.
"To Ainoa Orphanage."
Well. That doesn't affect his carriage driving skills.
