MPBAGS Chapter 56
Soon after, the door opened.
Yulma tried her best to maintain her composure. She just had to do what she'd discussed with Ranon. It wouldn't be difficult, so she could do it well.
However, Yulma's breathing was immediately disrupted. The director hadn't come alone—she had brought a man bound in chains.
'Why did she bring him?'
The man was blocking the director's back, making it difficult for Ranon to target her from behind. The man, whose entire body was restrained, moved like a doll as the director led him.
"Who freed Yulma?"
The director looked around the room and asked sweetly.
"Why isn't anyone answering? The director has returned. Everyone turn around and welcome me."
There was no response. All the children had their ears covered. Yulma had told her younger siblings to absolutely not look back, to cover their ears, and to huddle against the wall. The children were afraid of Yulma, so they would listen well.
For the impatient children, she had told them they could only look back after counting to one hundred, and as far as Yulma knew, none of the children could count that high.
"Yulma. You answer me. What is this situation?"
"That's what I want to ask. Director, what are you going to do with us? I thought you were going to sell us."
At those words, the director narrowed her eyes and smiled sweetly.
"Sell you? Hahaha, yes, that's an amusing misunderstanding. No, I was originally going to sell you, so maybe it's not a misunderstanding? You too, Yulma. If my son hadn't damaged the merchandise, I could have gotten a high price... Making such conspicuous wounds in visible places, isn't he such a bad child?"
'I'm merchandise?'
Yulma felt betrayed by the director, but also felt a faint gratitude toward Troy. Being injured was better than being sold to an unknown destination. To Yulma, wounds like these weren't even scratches.
"But now the situation has changed. Troy borrowed a huge sum using the orphanage as collateral. Even if someone were to buy all of you, it wouldn't be enough to pay it back. So I found another method."
Take back what I just said. Damn bastard! So this is all happening because of the money that bastard borrowed?
Yulma reminded herself of her role and continued questioning.
"So what is this method?"
"Would you believe me if I told you? I couldn't believe it myself until I saw it directly... Yes, you'll understand when you see it too."
The director walked to the wall and ran her hand over the weapons. For a moment, Yulma tensed up. She wouldn't notice that one weapon was missing, would she? Fortunately, the director didn't seem to notice and passed by the empty spot.
The next moment, Yulma bit her tongue to avoid cursing.
The director had picked up a blade.
Damn, this is crazy. Ranon was right. The director really intended to use that weapon on us.
"Yulma, you'll understand me later too."
Understand my ass! It would be better to starve to death than to fill my belly by selling innocent children.
"You're a good child, aren't you?"
Even in this situation, does being good or not matter? Those precious words were something the director said often. The children would act cute to hear that praise of being good.
"I like good children. That's the only way the demon can be satisfied."
The director pointed the blade at Yulma. She was completely facing away from the door. And beyond the director's back, Yulma could see Ranon looking shocked.
Except for the director holding the blade, things hadn't changed much from their expectations. The plan was for Yulma to be the bait and Ranon to strike the director from behind.
The director raised her hand.
"Ranon!"
Yulma squeezed her eyes shut, hoping for success.
