MPBAGS Chapter 61
"Meow—."
And from beyond the door, I heard a cat sound. It's Pudding! Filled with joy, I opened the door and made eye contact with Pudding.
He grew a lot in that short time? His eye level matches mine.... Oh, that's not it. Pudding was being held in someone's arms. When I looked up slightly, I saw a very familiar face.
"Lord Gabriel?"
"Good evening, Lady Rohanson."
Huh? What? Why are you holding our house cat? Behind Gabriel, who appeared out of nowhere, another familiar person appeared.
"Henna?"
What is this?
Though I never suspected anything, Gabriel started explaining elaborately like someone caught in an affair. So....
"You came looking for me?"
To summarize, the outline of the incident is simple. First, Gabriel came looking for me for some reason.
"I sincerely apologize for visiting at such a late hour without prior notice."
But I was away from home. Then he happened to meet Henna. Henna said she definitely heard Kanna say "I'll be back in a bit," but it was getting too late so she was worried and waiting outside. Oh Kanna—exactly what part of infiltrating an orphanage screamed "quick errand" to you when you casually announced you'd be back shortly....
That's where their purposes aligned. An "Find Evangeline (Kanna)" party was formed.
They found out the destination by asking the butler, took the temple carriage here, but were shaken because there was no one inside the orphanage.
"If not for Lord Pudding, we would have just returned."
So that's why Pudding was in his arms. Pudding, held by Gabriel, looked very tired. Our baby, who can't even speak human words yet, how hard must he have tried with nonverbal expressions to become this exhausted. How admirable.
When I took Pudding over, Gabriel's gaze sharpened.
"So, can Lady Evangeline explain what situation this is now?"
Well... it's a long story to explain....
Where should I start? From when I went to find Daisy? But isn't it too suspicious to suddenly visit someone who quit? I can't say I did it to try to find out what you heard.
"I think it would be more accurate to hear it from Miss Daisy. We came here in the first place because of Miss Daisy's request."
As before, Kanna became my relief pitcher. It's such a perfectly correct statement that I can only admire it. People of the world, our female lead is this sharp.
Behind Kanna, Daisy bowed her head. Hmm, it seems like the two of them have gotten somewhat closer. Am I imagining it?
"We meet again."
"Indeed we do."
"Then may I ask for an explanation?"
Daisy glanced at me, then brought up the story.
The director had been trafficking children since they were young, and this time, because her son Troy had taken out a loan using the orphanage building as collateral, she confined the children in the basement to cover all that money.
As evidence, she submitted papers with human trafficking records that she had taken from the director's office.
Daisy didn't mention the spirit story until the end. Is she keeping the secret out of loyalty since she has a connection with me? But then what's the point when it's so obviously drawn on the floor?
"Then this drawing is...."
"It seems he copied a picture that was hanging in the temple. You could check the temple's entry records."
The implication was that if they couldn't find it, it was insufficient investigation. It was a very nice response.
"What will happen to Director Merai?"
"We'll keep her in custody until the trial. Especially since she seems to be related to this drawing too."
If Gabriel handles it, I can be at ease.
"Uriel, transport Merai Miller first."
Ah, I had something to ask the director.
As Uriel was taking custody of the director and heading to the carriage, I asked if I could have a brief conversation before that. Uriel readily gave permission, saying I could talk as much as I wanted.
I expected her to give me desperate looks asking to be saved, but the director looked detached as if she had given up.
"What will happen to me?"
"You'll be punished."
My heart beat violently. Let me ask how she summoned the spirit! Was it even a spirit in the first place?
"You know well what you summoned, don't you?"
The director glanced at Uriel and gave a vague answer.
"...The worst troublemaker who doesn't listen to me at all."
As expected, it's a wind spirit. Being free is their racial characteristic.
"How did you summon it?"
"I remember it very well."
The director firmly shut her mouth after that statement. Why won't she tell me? No, why do only you remember it?
It felt like when you ask if someone has an eraser and they say yes. That's supposed to mean, ‘Lend it to me!’ It's like an implicit social rule! Doesn't it work because the worldview is different?
I wanted to grab her by the collar and force her to talk, but there were too many watching eyes here. Knights, children.... If I slipped up, all the efforts I'd made for karma redemption so far might crumble, so I couldn't act rashly.
I can't help it; there's nothing I can do.
